Being an orphan, she had few options and was forced into slavery. Fortunately, associates of the Freedom Café were able to help her escape from the red light district she was trapped in. Now, she is married and living a happy, safe and free life. It is truly amazing that despite the pain and injustice this woman experienced, love was able to endure and overcome. The support that you give to the Freedom Café is much more than a simple act of charity, it is an act of love for those who are suffering. These women have taken steps toward freedom by starting their own beauty parlor business. Unfortunately, they were judged based on their caste, which is associated with the sex trade, so other women avoided their business. Since then, they have been relocated in hopes that they will be able to have a self-sustaining business where they won’t be judged unfairly. Think about what freedom means to you, and the privileges you have in our society that allow you to have the opportunities and rights that benefit you. As a consumer, we play a role in feeding into the slavery industrial complex through our choices of products and services.
